A thirty-minute CD on Clean Feed’s sister label, Coclea consists of six episodes by Guilherme Gonçalves, who all alone plays unproblematic melodies surrounded by easily appealing loops on seriously processed, but still overly polite electric guitars. A couple of tracks contain truly kitsch stuff, with saccharine lines that made me cringe. The singing is limited, in all senses. When the man sets the controls of his devices on repetition-cum-long reverb mode, a few consonant halos are warranted for relaxation, without further ambition. Think of a lighter (much lighter) version of David Sylvian’s instrumentals on Gone To Earth. Then divide by four.
