FRANÇOIS CARRIER / MICHEL LAMBERT / RAFAL MAZUR – Unknowable

Not Two

Can you say “free jazz minus the recusancy of weightlessness”? Spirited to a decent degree and relatively disengaged from formulaic obligations, this trio manage – at least in this occasion – to avoid the crepuscular area of useful improvisation thanks to elements such as a splendid snare sound, a constant flux of fairly inventive reed messages and a not overly gentlemanly conduct by the man in charge of the contrapuntal bottom end. There’s no trace of incisive malevolence – serenity and positiveness prevail – nor one can expect abrupt changes of scenario from a track to another. Still, the music does possess a brisk character, a rather muscular vibe remunerating enough the mental ambience of an evening that was passing by devoid of noteworthy events.
